Graduate Student: Burglary
Luxury to Forget
Chalkboard stating Burglary with a peer mentality. Easier to get away with in the country. written in chalk

Oh man. There’s so much. Here’s one anecdote I remember:

One time we broke into a schoolmate’s family’s shed as retribution for ongoing disagreements. We thought we could find a spare key, but ended up smashing out a window instead.

It was one of those things where one kid says it out loud (let’s break into their shed!), so there’s a greater chance of it happening. We figured there’d be steaks and beer inside—but really it was just some old tools and a pint of ice cream in the freezer. We took the ice cream.

I think getting caught for embracing that peer mentality would have hampered my career choices. But this was out in the middle of nowhere, so we were unlikely to be caught compared to kids our age doing similar things in the city.
