Louise Waakaa’igan

Louise K. Waakaa’igan, an Anishinaabekwe poet, is enrolled at Odaawaa Zaaga ‘iganiing (Lac Courte Orielles) Reservation in northern Wisconsin. Louise is the recipient of the 2017 PEN Poetry first place prize for her poem, “This Is Where.” She is the first-place winner of the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop Broadside competition in 2016 with her poem, “Within.”

Her first poetry collection, This Is Where, was published in 2020 and was chosen as the Central Minnesota Read in Poetry for 2021.
