Let’s Talk About Minnesota’s Crumbling Prisons: May 8

Join the Minnesota Justice Research Center at the Weisman Art Museum on May 8th, 2025 for a community conversation about the viability of Minnesota Correctional Facilities that are well over 100 years old in Stillwater and St. Cloud.

Background: The century-old St. Cloud and Stillwater prisons are extremely unsafe, expensive to repair, and hardly conducive to rehabilitation. It’s time for Minnesota to decommission these facilities once and for all. This is an opportunity to protect and uplift both the prison population and staff, curb the rising incarcerated population in Minnesota, and reimagine the culture inside.

Where: Weisman Art Museum, 333 E River Rd, Minneapolis, MN 55455

When: May 8, 2025 5-8pm

5-6pm: Tour the SEEN art exhibit on carceral spaces and coming home, by We Are All Criminals.

6-7pm: Eat dinner and hear about new reports on Minnesota’s facility conditions from the Ombuds for Corrections Office and the Crime & Justice Institute.

7-8pm: Engage in group discussion to reflect on the future of Minnesota’s outdated prisons and be a part of the community-based momentum for change.

RSVP required. Dinner will be provided.
